My name is Steve Goodgame. I am the Education and Learning Manager at the American Radio Relay League in Newington, CT. As part of our educational outreach to schools through our Education & Technology Program,  the ARRL offers multiple sessions of the Teachers Institute on Wireless Technology. The Teachers Institute is an expenses-paid professional development program intended to provide teachers with tools and strategies to introduce basic electronics, the science of radio, space technology and satellite communications, weather science, and micro-controllers to their students. The curriculum is designed for motivated teachers and other school staff who want to learn more about wireless technology and bring that knowledge to their students. I spent 21 years in the classroom, so I understand the challenges and rewards teachers face each and every day. This program is phenomenal.

In a nutshell, we provide for transportation, lodging, and meals for attendees. Attendees spend a week in classes and leave with not only a wealth of information, but also with equipment and materials to help incorporate what they have learned into their classrooms. We also have grant opportunities for teachers and schools to help implement wireless technology into their classes. Additionally, teachers can earn CEU/college credit through Fresno State University.

This year alone, the ARRL Foundation is giving away approximately $850,000 in scholarships to students who are licensed amateur radio operators.
