Maplewood Nature Center and it’s partners, have received a grant to pollinator surveys, plantings and education at a special Natural Area in your area: Fish Creek Natural Area. This area is located south of Carver Avenue; and borders the area west of 494. The grant period is from July 2015 to July 2018.
We are looking for teachers from school in St. Paul or the East Metro area interested in collaborating with us. Our goal is to educate 800 students about the importance of pollinators especially at Fish Creek over the grant period.
Grade levels we are looking for are 4th through 8th grade. A number of science benchmarks would be addressed through this education.
Lessons would include at least one outreach lesson in your classroom. (2 hours) and a class field trip to survey and/or plant for pollinators at the Fish Creek site (2-4 hours).
Busing, materials (snacks, photo equipment, bee guides, and more) and naturalists teaching time would be paid through the grant. This is a free program for you and your students.
* Ability to bring classrooms to Fish Creek at least once during pollinator survey times: May through September
* Interested, flexible, collaborative teachers
* Support of school administrator
* Ability to attend one summer/early fall teacher orientation
* Additional adults to help on field trip days
